My First Major Competition: Henry Sildaru's Story
Junior world champion in freestyle skiing Henry Sildaru shared memories of his first major competition as part of the ICG Tallinn 2025 video story series.
Henry Sildaru made his championship debut at the age of 14 at the Junior World Championships. He managed to win a gold medal in halfpipe and a bronze in slopestyle.
Today, Henry Sildaru has firmly established himself among the absolute elite in the sport, and he remains the only male top-level skier who competes in all three disciplines: halfpipe, slopestyle, and big air.
"My advice to the athletes participating in the International Children’s Games in Tallinn is to enjoy the competition and not overthink it. Train hard, and the battle will be easy," said Sildaru to the young athletes heading to Tallinn.
“My First Major Competition” is a video series where Estonian athletes reflect on their early steps onto the international stage and encourage young participants of the International Children’s Games—taking place in Tallinn from 4–7 August—to make the most of the experience.
