The City of Tallinn is transforming Aia Street into a green and vibrant public space this summer, complete with rest areas, play zones, urban furniture, and greenery.

On Sunday, 27 April, construction works will take place on Estonia puiestee between Kentmanni and Sakala streets, affecting traffic in the area as well as the routes and stops of several bus lines.

Starting this spring, Tallinn has appointed a nature ranger responsible for maintenance and landscape care in local conservation areas and the Paljassaare Special Conservation Area, as well as for the restoration and upkeep of species-rich meadows.

Starting today, 22 April, property owners in Tallinn can begin submitting applications for compensation related to the 2025 land tax increase. The first to be processed will be applications from those whose land tax is up to €100 and who have already paid the full amount. Those whose land tax exceeds €100 — with the second installment due on 1 October — have time to apply, as their applications will be processed starting from 2 October.

The Tallinn City Government has changed the administrative structure in the field of urban planning, transferring the authority to initiate detailed plans from the City Government to the Tallinn Urban Planning Department. This change will enable detailed plans to be initiated within the 30-day timeframe set by law and significantly accelerate the overall planning process. The City of Tallinn and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of the Kingdom of Spain have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote educational cooperation. Tallinn is launching the “Ohutu koolitee” (Safe School Route) program to make the streets around every school in the city safer and more supportive of independent mobility for children. In addition to improving street safety, the initiative aims to enhance the overall quality of the surrounding urban space to encourage children to walk more and spend more time outdoors.

Tallinn Education Department and international programming school kood/Jõhvi are launching a partnership to offer three Estonian-language programming courses to ten Tallinn high schools starting from the next academic year. The first course – an introduction to programming – was presented on Wednesday, which students at Tallinna Tehnikagümnaasium have already started taking at their own pace since last week.
