Tallinn presents:
Valgus kõnnib 2025

Light walks through Kadriorg Park in Tallinn for the 18th time this year, bringing striking light displays as well as music and installation performances into the dimming autumn evenings.

The Light Festival can be visited this year on the evenings of September 19 and 20, from 8 PM to 11 PM. The festival is free for everyone. The full schedule will be published on this website before the event.

The Art of Being Human

Life is always in motion. Nothing stands still: everything renews, evolves, expands, and moves forward again. The same is true for people. We are changemakers, and with this year’s installation, we pay tribute to each and every one of us.

How can we be good family members, friends, partners? How can we support our community, be kind-hearted members of society, and better versions of ourselves?

These are the guiding questions behind this year’s “Valgus kõnnib” festival. Over the course of two evenings, visitors will be able to experience four different visual performances and enjoy a wide range of light installations.

Pihlapuu varjus

📍Kadriorg Park Concert Stage

A person needs the warmth and security of home, yet at the same time longs to look beyond the horizon. Some leave home with a light heart. Others are forced to leave. No matter how far or how long we go away, home is the place we want to return to.

The visual performance can be seen at the Kadriorg Park concert stage on both days at 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

Be nothing

📍 In front of Kadriorg Art Museum

From task to task, from workplace to workplace, from meeting to meeting. If we pause for a moment in all this rushing and take time for ourselves, we realize that being present in the moment can make our lives much happier. When we sometimes allow ourselves simply to be, it makes us free.

The visual performance can be seen in front of Kadriorg Art Museum on both days at 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM.

Kratt

📍 Luigetiik

In folklore, the Kratt is a mythical figure who flies around like a fireball. The master decides to create a Kratt to do work and gather wealth on his behalf. He gives the devil three drops of blood to bring the Kratt to life. However, the Kratt seizes power and at some point rules over the master’s world. Could today’s Kratt be artificial intelligence?

The visual performance can be seen at Luigetiik on both days at 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

Wish you were here

📍Mereallee

Friendship is unconditional and does not rely on obligation. It does not require constant proof. A quiet presence is enough to say: I am here for you. And if one day friends go their separate ways, then to accept and be grateful for the time spent together.

The visual performance can be seen at Mereallee (the park area near Russalka) on both days at 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

Infinity

📍Area between Luigetiik and the Concert Stage

An illusion created by the effect of mirrors, where the entire surroundings become multiple and infinite. As the light changes, the whole visible illusion becomes dynamic and enchanting.

Panso

📍In front of the Concert Stage

This year, we celebrate the Year of Estonian Book. Estonian theater has brought to life much valuable Estonian literature. Theater director Voldemar Panso was also a sharp-witted writer. Using light and video technology, we bring to life a life-size sculpture of Voldemar Panso, sharing his thoughts on life, work, and art.

Phoebus Apollo

📍Around the Apollo Sculpture

The Belvedere Apollo copy is the oldest sculpture in Kadriorg Park. It is a copy of the sculpture by the Greek sculptor Leonchares, located in the Belvedere Palace in the Vatican. Our classical ideal of beauty, sense of harmony, and proportion come from ancient Greece. This was expressed not only in individual sculptures but also in complete spatial designs. Using airy metal mesh columns illuminated with light, we create a harmonious, temple-like light installation around the Apollo statue.

By the Light of Flowers

📍In the Flower Garden

Decorating the baroque-era flower garden with candle holders is a long-standing tradition. The beauty of live fire can be experienced again this year.

Laser graphics

📍The facade of Kadriorg Art Museum

A 360º installation where laser light highlights the Baroque architecture of Kadriorg Art Museum along with the trees in front of the building. The graphics change over time, creating a dynamic light installation with the building itself as the focal point.

Lux Arborum

📍The Lower Garden

The Lower Garden (Alumine aed) is an important part of Kadriorg Park, forming a complete ensemble with the palace. The installation’s elements are the park’s own trees, which come to life with vivid and ever-changing colors.

Living paintings

📍Katariina Road from the Museum

Portrait paintings by Estonian artists selected from the collection of the Estonian Art Museum, transformed into living, speaking personalities using artificial intelligence.

The Beauty of Nature

📍The park area surrounding Katariina Road

An installation inspired by various natural phenomena, creating different illusions ranging from the northern lights to a shower of stars.

19.09 kell 20:30-21:30 Gerilja valguskatsetused Hirvepargis projekti Art of Darkness raames

gerilja_2019_lucia.jpg

Võid jalutada 0,5 km rajal omas tempos, keskmiselt tasub varuda umbes 30 minutit. Jalutuskäigu ajal saad juhised oma telefoni. Kogume infot, kuidas inimesed tajuvad pimedust ja kunstlikku valgustust Hirvepargis, et saaksime luua parema lahenduse pargi valgustusele.

Jalutus-küsitlus on osa rahvusvahelisest projektist Art of Darkness. Projekti käigus püüame säilitada ja parandada kultuuripärandi paiku kogu Euroopas, suurendades arusaamist pimeduse kultuurilistest, esteetilistest ja ökoloogilistest väärtustest. Hästi planeeritud pimeda aja kasutamine võib edendada heaolu, mugavust, kestlikkust ning kultuuri- ja loomesektori tegevust.

Räägi meile oma pimeda aja kogemustest

Osale uuringus! Küsitluse abil kogutakse uut teavet pimeda aja tähenduste kohta linnakeskkonnas. Küsitluse kaudu saadavat teavet kasutatakse uute valgustusdisaini lahenduste väljatöötamisel linnade ja kultuuripärandi objektide valgustamiseks. Küsitlusele vastatakse anonüümselt. Küsitlusele vastamiseks on soovitatav varuda umbes 20 minutit. Küsitlust saad täita oma telefonis.
